Stallion bloodlines of Kirow Gestüt

In 30th year of the last century Kirow Gestüt, was founded by the Mikhalikovy brothers. At that time, it specialized primarily on the Budenny breed. Later on, after the Second World War, Kirow Gestüt finally came to light as the home of Elite Trakehner Hauptgestüt «Trakehnen», and the East Prussian horses delivered from Germany.
For almost 60 years Kirow breeders have taken great care and increased both the genetic and sport abilities of this unique breed. The quality of Kirow Gestüt horses is well known in Russia, as well as all over the World. As one of the largest Trakehner horse studs in Europe, Kirow Gestüt elevated the Russian Trakehner breed to the prestigious status, raising it to inclusion in the Top 20 sport breeds of the World.
In recent years, Kirow Gestüt has also returned to breeding of Buddennys as an effort to save the Elite livestock of Ulovsky Studfarm. The first breeding season demonstrated that the core pedigree of Budenny mares in conjunction with the Budenny and TB stallions of the best sport bloodlines was a sound decision.

For the past 20 years Mr. Valery Sergeev had managed the breeding program at Kirow Gestüt. Mr. Sergeev graduated from Timiryasev, the Moscow Agricultural Academy more than 30 years ago and was assigned to Kirow Gestüt, where he made his home till the end of his days. Mr. Sergeev was the perfect breedig specialist. He had excellet knowelege of both the history and the current condition of the breed and was a wealth of knowledge regarding all the details of Russian and World Wide breeding selections. He, himslef, along with the former director of Kirov, Mr. V. Cherkezov gave the second birth to the Kirow Gestüt museum with vastarchive files and other prewar materials, horse studbooks of Hauptgestüt «Trakehnen» and precious canvases. On April 23 Mr. Valery Sergeev and his wife have died in car accident. Now his son is the one who will continue the dynasty of breeding specialists.

|
The main old-Trakehner lines that have proven most worthy at stud are the Pilger and Pythagoras lines. Both of them are highly valued not only in Russia but also throughout the world.
PILGER LINE
This line is currently presented at stud with five stallions and all of them are offspring of USSR show jumping champion Ostrjak, a Pilger grandson.

The black stallion, BUG, is by Blesk out of Gitara (F.13 Ampula), born in 1985, 169 – 196 – 22. He is typical for the line. He has an excellent head, reaching neck, a little bit long top line and strong foundation. Inbreeding to Pamir (IV-IV) gives him those elastic gaits very common for Piligrim offspring.
Bug offspring are excellent for both Dressage and Jumping. Bug was highly evaluated by the Russian Trakehner Association (here and further RTA) and by the German Trakehner Verband (here and further DTV) and in 1997 was approved for breeding. As the best Bug offspring at this moment we can list: Zubr, Barbaris, Obrjad in jumping, Bubn in dressage and Olbi in eventing.

Second and also a very nice stallion by Blesk is dark-bay Obrutsch out of Olkha (F. 165 TIBERIUSSCHE), born in 1991, 170 – 219 – 22,5. This stallion possesses his unique massive elegance and exceptional movement. He received his Dressage training in Germany, but was injured and returned back to Kirow Gestüt. Even though this stallion has some of Hungarian blood in his pedigree he will be used frequently at stud. The same is true of BIOTOP (who is 3/4 brother to Obrutsch). BIOTOP was famous in dressage under saddle with the late Dr. R. Klimke and has been approved for Trakehner breeding while carrying Brandenburg blood in his pedigree.

HERSON by Eol, out of Hasa (F. Sapadnja), was born in 1978 and approved by RTA and DTV is a striking talent in Russian jumping. After his sport career, he has been used in several of stud farms in South Russia. Kirow Gestüt also has Herson at stud until the end of his days. He has left several broodmares and three stallions. Two of his stallions were born in 2001: Stalker out of Saklja (F.0117 Pikhta), 182-196-21 and Padishach out of Perekis (F. 127 Fanny – 0154 Khirurgija), 175-198-22 and one black son - Pekhotinets out of Plaksa (F. 067 Domra) born in 1998.

All Herson offspring are very typical, recognizable, large with an elegant head and smart eyes, having harmonious lines and good bones. They have perfect gaits and a powerful technically correct jump.
PYTHAGORAS LINE
The Pythagoras line is represented through three of his sons: Kreon, Torero and Piligrim.

Two stallions, both sons of ESPADRON – Olympic winner in Moscow are used for breeding at Kirow Gestüt. One of them is a licenzed with RTA and approved with DTV chestnut TELEZ out of Tisjatscha (F. 156 Norma), born in 1986, 167 – 197 – 22 Telez was successfully competed in national jumping championships in Russia. Telez is a large, correct stallion with long harmonious lines and excellent gaits. He has been widely used at stud for almost 10 years and had produced a number of high quality breeding and sport horses.

Among the best horses by Telez can be mentioned Boksit, Ottisk, Plastun and Otrok in dressage, Hrebet, Otpor in jumping and several of his daughters used as broodmares abroad, including Hlopotunija in America, who is also ridden by a young rider.

To continue the Telez line at stud service, it was decided to keep his dark-chestnut son, OJITAL out of Osetia (F.57 Kleeblatt -147 Mangrovie) born in 2000, 172-198-22. Having a little bit simple head, he has outstanding movements and good frame and he is definitely better then his sire. He has a strong foundation as represented for all Telez offspring.

The second stallion by Espadron is well known among both breeders and equestrian sport lovers. The brown bay, OREOL, out of Obitel (F.177 Fatme – 83 Goldenkammer), was born in 1988, 168 – 198 – 21. He is an All Russia “S” level Jumping Champion under saddle with Natalija Simonia. He is an elegant stallion with a good frame. Even taking into account his rather long sport career, he still has strong foundation and supple movements. He has slightly Arabic head, with smart eyes, neck of average length, short and strong top line. It is now the third season for Oreol at Kirow Gestüt.

And certainly it was impossible for Kirow Gestüt to leave out offspring of legendary dressage stallion PEPEL. His grandson, “S” level jumping stallion RASLIV by Vypas out of Rubrika (F. 165 Tiberiussche – Diana 43), born in 1992, 175-210-22. The first breeding season for Rasliv at his native Kirow Gestüt was in 2004.

One more horse that represents Pythagoras line at this stud is TAVR, born in 1992, 167 – 194 – 22, by Tarino, out of Vetka (F. 57 Kleeblatt -147 Mangrovie). Vetka was by Olympic champion TOPKIJ. Tavr is not typical Tarino offspring and he much more like with his grandsire. Tavr is charming horse with long neck, wide chest, splendid shoulder, well articulated croup, strong legs, and enormous trot. Tavr took part in “S” level jumping competitions in Russia.
PRIBOJ LINE
It is also very important to mention those lines that have been formed in Soviet Union after Second World War. The leading place in Warmblood horse breeding can be assigned to Arabian stallion PRIBOJ, who is represented at Kirow Gestüt by HOCKEY and POPLIN offspring.

Son of the famous Poplin, is the black stallion HEOPS out of Hlorka (F. 177 Fatme – 307 Hingana), born in1988, 165- 203-22. Heops is rather large, with good bones and rough head, which is very characteristic for Poplin offspring. Heops also has a long, reaching neck, good angles, long top line with active croup, strong foundation, and excellent productive gaits. He completed a successful career in eventing and now he is widely used at stud.

When talking about Hockey, it is worth mentioning that there are a lot of his daughters and grand daughters and two of his sons ORECH and SKIF are now producing well at Kirow Gestüt.

ORECH out of Optika (F. 80 Demant – 149 Maska 220), was born in 1986, 168-195-21,5. He is approved with RTA and DTV. He is a large, elegant stallion of Eastern type with three perfect gaits and a strong top line. Orech has neat head, long neck and high withers. It is very easy to recognize broodmares produced by Orech. His best among his offspring in dressage we can list Memory, Rodnik, Plombir and in jumping – Bor, Volyn’. Oshoga, a characteristic daughter, is a productive broodmare in America and has also been accepted as a DH (elite) mare in the Danish Verband.
Kirow Gestüt made a decision to cross-breed for sport and purchased two Westfalen stallions: POSANDO and POLYDOR, born in 1995, 174-215-23, who represent Harry On xx – Puchino xx line and Quazimodo Z by Quick Star, born in 1994, 175-210-23, who belongs to Ibragim line. This stallion stems to Alme Z, an outstanding jumping horse of international level and sire of top class sport horses like: I Love You, Jen Dor, Jalisco B, Aerobic, Galoubet a Malesan и Galoubet. (By the way the last stallion has produced World champion Baloubet Du Rouet).
THOROUGHBRED LINES

DUGLAS xx line represents Trakehner stallion FORT by Fason xx out of Raduga (F. 61 Soldatsche), born in 1986, 169-198-22 and licensed by RTA. All his of offspring have perfect movement and excellent temperament. The best son by Fort is ESAUL out of Evropa (F. 60 Demant – 131 Kerenia), who was highly evaluated by Lithuania Trakehner Association and DTV. Esaul produces in Nemuno horse stud in Lithuania.
SESAM xx son SASLON out of Zuhra (F. 118 Zapadnja), born in 1990, 169-196-22, also produces at Kirow Gestüt. He is a great carrier of elegant type. Correct head, reaching neck, good angles, wide croup, strong extremities are his trademarks. Saslon has nice elastic movements and correct powerful jump. His best sons areTOPAZ and OTTISK, who compete in jumping.

BREAMSTONE xx line is represented by three of sons by Grand Pardubice Steeplechase winner EROT xx: TESYS, ORIGON, OKEAN and one stallion by NOVATOR named ElLEMENT. ORIGON out of Osanka (F. 80 Demant – 149 Maska 220), was born in 1999, 173 – 196 – 21,5. OKEAN out of Olcha (F. 165 Tiberiussche), was born in 1998, 172 – 196 – 21. Both were trained it jumping and just assigned for breeding approbation. ELEMENT out of Emal’ (F. 360 Ernessa), born in 2001, 169-196-21 and was designated for approbation in 2002.

TEZYS out of Ekonomika (F. 68 Kiewitt), born in 1985, 165-200-22, is an elegant stallion with very beautiful head, long neck, perfect shoulders, wide chest, muscled croup, elastic gaits and very good temperment. The best stallion by Tezys is international level jumper PROSTOR licensed by Danish Trakehner Association. Prostor came to America as a Grand Prix jumper. He was subsequently gelded in 2004 and is now ridden in top competition by an Amateur. Among the other TEZYS offspring can be mentioned OTBLESK and HITROL in dressage and OMUT in Jumping.

There are four more TB breeding stallions at Kirow Gestüt: COOL FIRE xx (Colmore Row xx–Into The Fire xx), 1993, 162-195-20; VOSTOK xx (Triple Buck–Andorra хх), 1994, 166-202-22; SCHANK хх (Leo Castelli xx–African Daisy xx), 1994, 163-188-21; TURIEN PURPLE xx (Wassl xx–Sabrine xx), 1988, 163-193-21.
All of these stallions have had perfect racing careers and represent the leading sport lines of: Northern Dancer хх, Nasrullah xx, Hyperiion xx, Nearco xx.
Kirow Gestüt also use Arabian stallions in Trakehner breeding.

To the MANSUR ox line we have ASBEST ox out of Simpatika ox, born in 1981, 157 cm of high and trakehner stallion WEIS by Asbest ox out of Abrikoska (F. 311 Tinette –127 Karta), born in 2000 and 166 cm of high.
