Approval Regulations

for

Stallions of Russian Trakehner, Hanoverian and Holsteiner Bloodlines

 

     1. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1.1    To improve the quality of the Trakehner, Hanoverian, Holsteiner bloodstock; to use purebred stallions most valuable     type, pedigree and sport qualities.

1.2    Prevent use of non-valuable stallions which do not meet all the requirements.

1.3    Take into consideration international value of those breeds all the bloodstock which meet international requirements.

 

     2. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF STALLION LICENSING

2.1    Only purebred and confirmed stallions of Trakehner, Hanoverian, Holsteiner breeds and purebred stallions and TB and Arabian breeds that are registered with All Russia Scientific Institute of Horse breeding can be approved for breeding.

2.2      Stallion owners should have membership within at least one Trakehner or sport horse within the registry.

2.3    Licensing can be realized with License Committee who works within one year only and consists of independent specialists in sport horse breeding and approved with Agricultural Ministry of Russia.

2.4      Young Stallions can be inspected at All Russia or regional Horse Trials. By the inquiry of the owner, adult stallions that have been already used for breeding can be inspected at the stud farm and get an additional mark for the quality of their offspring.

2.5      Licensing is based on Committee evaluation of all stallions by type, pedigree and sport qualities. Exterior marks are based on international standards. Sport qualities – according to regional horse trials or sport trials at Stud and show results. Horses can be evaluated in public ring.

2.6      Stallions who meet all the requirements are to be approved stallions. These stallions get the official License of standard form signed by chairman of License Committee and president of All Russia Scientific Institute of Horse breeding. License can be valid only when have two stamps on it: Stamp of All Russia Scientific Institute of Horse breeding and stamp of one of registries the horse belongs to.

2.7      Young stallions that don’t meet at least one of those requirements be granted private breeding status only and can be inspected once again when not less then 10 inspected offspring are inspected and meet requirements.

     3. REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAKEHNER, HANOVERIAN AND HOLSTEINER STALLIONS

3.1      Pedigree requirements:  Trakehner breed accepts only purebred horses, with genealogy coming from the ancestors that have been registered with Trakehner or East-Prussian Studbooks (if a pedigree of the horse has been lost, then the horse should have Trakehner brand of Trakehner Union on it’s right hip or East-Prussian on it’s left hip).

3.2      Hanoverian and Holsteiner breeds accept only purebred horses, with genealogy coming from the ancestors that has been registered with Hanoverian and Holsteiner Studbooks and stallions that have Trakehner ancestors. Parents of Hanoverian stallion must both be accepted I Hanoverian book. Parents of Holsteiner stallions must both be accepted in the Holsteiner book. Parents of Trakehners stallions must both be accepted within the Trakehner book.

Hanoverian stallions can also be approved when they do not have in their pedigree from mare’s side more than 1/16 of Holsteiner blood and Holsteiner stallions can be approved when they do not have more than 1/16 of Hanoverian blood on the dam’s side of the pedigree.

Pedigree of horses listed before can contain Thoroughbred, Arabian and Anglo-Arabian ancestors as well, without any limitations.

Purebred origin should be confirmed with studbook registration and blood or DNA tests.

3.3      Type requirements: stallion should satisfy the requirements of modern sport horse with special characteristics for each breed with score for type not less then 8 points.

3.4    Size requirements: approved stallion should have minimum: 158-174-19,5 (Trakehners) and 160-180-20,0 (Hanoverians and Holsteiners) at the age of 2 and one half years.

3.5      Exterior requirements: exterior evaluation should be done accordingly to international practice of sport horse evaluation and should not be less then 8 points.

3.6      Sport qualities:  stallion should complete training and stud trials with the result not less then 8 points or to compete at one of the classical horse disciplines. Minimum requirements for the movement qualities for all the breeds listed above should be: length of walk – 93 cm, length of trot – 167 cm, style of movements – not less then 8 points.

3.7      Riding abilities: stallion should be good natured, respond to the leg, have comfortable trot, soft mouth, long and lissome nape, good abilities for dressage, willing to move. All those qualities should be evaluated by official trainer and be not less than 8 points.

3.8      Offspring quality: Approved stallion that has gotten less then 6 points for his offspring or if he gives defects to his offspring loose his breeding license.

     4. REQUIREMENTS FOR THOROUGHBRED HORSES

4.1      Pedigree requirements: it is advisable to use Thoroughbred stallions who have very    good sport ancestors such as Dark Ronald xx, Nearco xx, Ferro xx, Fervor xx, Balbinus xx, etc.

4.2      Type, size and exterior of Thoroughbred stallions should satisfy the type, size and exterior of each of those breeds listed above.

4.3      Sport qualities: all Thoroughbred stallions should have very high racing class and be strongly talented (in Germany sport qualities of the stallion should reach the level of 95 kg of general handicap that is equals to 2-3 wins in traditional prizes), they should have not less then 9 points for moving and jumping qualities or not less then 8 points when competing at one of the classical horse disciplines.

     5. REQUIREMENTS FOR ARABIAN HORSES

5.1      When using Arabian horses in Trakehner, Hanoverian or Holsteiner breeds it is better to use stallion with similar type with horses of Priboj ox line. Priboj ox has very much influenced the Trakehner breed through his offspring Pomeranets ox, Topol ox, Profil ox.
